PaiN Gaming’s IEM Cologne Major 2026 journey is over, and it ended the way nobody in Brazilian CS2 wanted: with a whimper, not a bang. The team fell 0-2 to Monte on June 9 in Swiss Round 5 of Stage 2, capping a campaign that flashed brilliance one day and collapsed the next.
The squad finished 9th-11th at the Major, collecting $10,000 from the $80,000 Stage 2 prize pool. For a team that qualified through the Americas VRS standings, that’s the kind of result that stings more than a first-round exit.
A tale of two days in Cologne
On June 8, the team looked like genuine contenders, dismantling Astralis 2-0 in an elimination match. Player snow turned in a standout individual performance against the Danish roster.
Then June 9 happened. Monte shut paiN down 2-0. The roster of biguzera, nqz, piriajr, snow, and v$m, with saffee available as a substitute and rikz coaching, had the individual talent to compete at this level. What ultimately proved to be the deciding factor was whether they could sustain that level across multiple high-pressure matches against top-tier opposition.
The bigger picture for Brazilian CS2
The 2026 edition of the Major introduced format modifications, including an expanded Stage 3. PaiN never got to experience those changes firsthand, exiting in Stage 2.
Leading into Cologne, paiN had shown inconsistency that foreshadowed this outcome. Losses to teams like BIG and TYLOO in the pre-Major period exposed vulnerabilities that better-seeded opponents could exploit.
What this means for paiN and the Americas region
The $10,000 payout from Stage 2 barely covers travel costs for a five-player roster plus coaching staff flying to Cologne from Brazil. Snow’s performance against Astralis showed what’s possible when everything clicks. Biguzera and nqz have both demonstrated they can compete at the highest level. But the collective inconsistency against consistently high-performing rosters remained the defining problem.
