PSV Eindhoven let the clock run out on an €8 million option to permanently sign left-back Anass Salah-Eddine, sending the 24-year-old defender back to AS Roma after a loan spell that never quite caught fire.
The Dutch club had until the end of the loan period to trigger the buy clause. They chose not to, and negotiations for any alternative permanent deal have since stalled.
A loan that never gained traction
Salah-Eddine arrived at PSV on August 31, 2025. In practice, the numbers tell a different story. Salah-Eddine managed just 17 league appearances across the entire 2025-26 Eredivisie season. For context, a full Dutch league campaign runs 34 matchdays, meaning he featured in exactly half of PSV’s fixtures.
The path that led here
Born on January 18, 2002, in the Netherlands, the defender spent formative years developing in Dutch football before joining AS Roma from FC Twente on February 3, 2025.
He made just three Serie A appearances for Roma before the PSV loan materialized. The Dutch-born Moroccan international now finds himself heading back to Rome with two years remaining on his contract, which runs through June 30, 2028.
What happens next for Salah-Eddine and Roma
Salah-Eddine’s current market value sits at an estimated €12 million, which creates an interesting gap. His theoretical value exceeds the buy option PSV declined.
As of early June 2026, negotiations between PSV and Roma for any kind of permanent transfer have slowed considerably, with the momentum shifting toward Salah-Eddine returning to Roma for preseason.
