Astralis opened the FISSURE Playground 3 tournament with a statement win over G2 Esports on September 8, beating one of the world’s top rosters in a best-of-three Group A upper bracket match. The victory sets the tone for what promises to be a grueling week of Counter-Strike 2 competition in Suzhou, China, where $1 million and critical Valve Regional Standings points are up for grabs.

The Danish organization, which built a dynasty across four Major titles and once held the world number one ranking for 406 consecutive days, showed flashes of that vintage dominance across three maps. After splitting a tight contest on Ancient, Astralis took control on Mirage and closed out the series on Inferno.

What happened on the server

Astralis wasn’t the only team to post a win on day one. Teams including 9z, MIBR, BetBoom, and FURIA also secured opening victories, setting up an intriguing set of storylines as the double-elimination group stage unfolds over the coming days.

Inside the $1 million prize pool

FISSURE Playground 3 features 16 teams competing across a double-elimination group stage that feeds into single-elimination playoffs. All matches through the bracket are best-of-three, with the grand final escalating to a best-of-five. The tournament runs through September 13.

Of the $1 million total, $450,000 goes directly to players while $550,000 is allocated to organizations. First place pays out $165,000 to the winning roster’s players and $135,000 to their club.

Beyond the money, the tournament carries significant Valve Regional Standings weight. VRS points function as CS2’s competitive currency, determining which teams qualify for Majors and other premier events.

This is the third iteration of the FISSURE Playground series, which debuted in 2025.
