Barça Mobile partners with Wirex and Crossmint for a Stellar-powered in-app wallet

FC Barcelona is not just a football club anymore. It is, apparently, also getting into the digital wallet business.

Barça Mobile, the club’s official mobile telecom service, announced on August 5, 2026 that it is building an in-app digital wallet powered by the Stellar blockchain. The infrastructure trio behind it: Wirex handling payment processing and card services, Crossmint managing wallet technology and user onboarding, and the Stellar Development Foundation providing the settlement layer underneath it all.

How the plumbing works

Wirex brings its position as a Visa and Mastercard member institution to the partnership, meaning the payment rails here are not purely crypto-native. The setup is a hybrid: blockchain settlement where it makes sense, traditional card infrastructure where it does not.

The Wirex-Crossmint partnership itself was established in late 2025, specifically to build smart wallet infrastructure and transaction capabilities. The Barça Mobile integration is the first major consumer deployment of that combined stack.

What Barça Mobile actually is

Barça Mobile launched in April 2025, operated by New Era Visionary Group under an MVNO agreement with Orange. MVNO stands for Mobile Virtual Network Operator, meaning Barça Mobile resells connectivity on Orange’s physical network infrastructure rather than building towers itself.

The service already spans over 170 countries through travel eSIM functionality. The wallet will support payments and rewards within the app, with cross-border value transfers as a core use case.

Why this moment matters for blockchain adoption

The Barça Mobile approach is structurally different from previous sports blockchain integrations. Stellar sits underneath the experience rather than on top of it. Users are not being asked to buy a fan token or connect a MetaMask wallet. They are being offered faster, cheaper payments and rewards inside an app they already have.

Stellar was designed specifically for low-cost, cross-border payments and has processed settlements for fintech applications and remittance corridors for years.
