Barcelona agrees to €55M deal to sell Ferran Torres to PSG

FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement in principle to transfer Ferran Torres for €50 million plus €5 million in add-ons. The deal, which has been in the works through early August 2026, would send the 26-year-old Spanish forward to Ligue 1 after four and a half years in Catalonia.

Torres has already agreed on personal terms with PSG and communicated to Barcelona his desire to make the move. With just one year left on his contract, set to expire in June 2027, the club’s leverage in negotiations was always going to erode with each passing month.

How the deal came together

Barcelona initially rejected PSG’s opening bid of €50 million, pushing back on what it considered insufficient guarantees around the base fee structure. The French club apparently sharpened the terms enough to bring Barcelona back to the table.

The total package of €55 million, when you factor in the add-ons, essentially mirrors what Barcelona paid Manchester City to sign Torres in January 2022. That original deal was worth an initial €55 million with up to €10 million in potential bonuses.

Torres’s market value heading into this window has been estimated between €38 million and €55 million, depending on the source. The agreed fee sits comfortably in the upper half of that range, largely thanks to one very specific moment on the global stage.

The World Cup effect

Torres scored the decisive goal in Spain’s 2026 World Cup victory. Before the tournament, Torres was a useful but inconsistent contributor at Barcelona. The World Cup changed the calculus entirely, and PSG, fresh off their UEFA Champions League victory, clearly took notice.

With Torres entering the final year of his contract, Barcelona faced a classic sell-or-lose-for-free dilemma. Every month that passes without a sale chips away at the club’s bargaining position.

What this means for both clubs

Barcelona signed Torres from Manchester City in January 2022, and his tenure at Camp Nou was marked by flashes of quality without ever truly nailing down an undisputed starting role.

The deal still requires a medical and official confirmation from both clubs before it can be formally announced. With personal terms already agreed and the two sides aligned on the fee structure, the remaining steps are procedural rather than substantive.
