BitMart reportedly exploring reversal of shutdown, phased restart possible

3 hours ago 11

BitMart, the centralized crypto exchange that stunned users with a full shutdown announcement on July 26, is reportedly exploring whether to walk back that decision and pursue a phased restart of services instead.

The potential reversal comes barely a month after the exchange halted new registrations and deposits, set a hard deadline to kill all trading by August 26, and told users to start pulling their funds.

The original shutdown plan

BitMart’s wind-down announcement arrived on July 26, citing a “strategic evaluation of operating conditions and the market environment.” New signups and deposits stopped immediately.

All trading services, both spot and futures, were scheduled to cease at 01:00 UTC on August 26. The platform planned to settle all remaining positions on behalf of users.

Complete cessation of operations was slated for 15:59 UTC on January 31, 2027. After that, users would retain limited access solely for viewing records and withdrawing remaining funds.

The market reaction was swift and brutal. BMX, BitMart’s native token, cratered by 55-59% within the first 24 hours of the announcement.

What made the shutdown particularly puzzling was the timing. BitMart’s first-half report had showcased a 256% growth in assets under management, and the exchange had recently acquired regulatory licenses in Australia.

Why a reversal now?

BitMart’s shutdown landed amid a wave of exchange closures in 2026, with BitMEX among the notable casualties.

Concerns about withdrawal reliability during the transition period have surfaced among users, with some reporting friction in the process of moving assets off the platform.

The bigger picture for centralized exchanges

The August 26 trading halt deadline is days away. Whether BitMart lets that deadline pass, extends it, or formally announces a reversal will tell users everything they need to know about how serious the restart exploration actually is.
