Block’s Cash App Wand sells out in hours, signaling a new chapter in fintech product innovation

Block just sold 10,000 units of a star-shaped, NFC-powered payment wand in less than 10 hours. The Cash App Wand, priced at $25 plus tax, is a pearlescent, keychain-clipped accessory that lets users tap to pay anywhere Visa is accepted. It links directly to a user’s existing Cash App Visa debit card.

The product, which launched on June 4, is the first item in a new line called “Cash App Tags.”

Turning payments into accessories

The Cash App Wand is a star-shaped trinket with a green jewel. The inspiration reportedly comes from a TikTok DIY trend where users hide payment cards inside stylish accessories. Block’s hardware lead Thomas Templeton has framed the vision as making payments not just functional but visible and trendy.

The initial release was limited to existing Cash App Card holders. Block has signaled that additional Tag designs and wider availability are planned for later in the summer of 2026.

Block’s product innovation drought

Cash App has offered physical debit cards since 2017. Block has hinted at a longer-term vision that could extend payment Tags into clothing or jewelry.

What this means for investors

10,000 units at $25 each generates $250,000 in revenue. Every Wand sold is a user who is now more deeply integrated into the Cash App ecosystem, linked to their Visa debit card and generating transaction fee revenue for Block with every tap.
