AFC Bournemouth have reached an agreement worth £22 million with Spanish club Elche CF to sign Álvaro Rodríguez, the 21-year-old centre-forward. The deal, structured around a €25 million base fee, could climb to €30 million (roughly £25.7 million) depending on performance-related add-ons.
Rodríguez is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Cherries, keeping him on the south coast through 2031.
What Bournemouth are getting
Álvaro Daniel Rodríguez Muñoz, born July 14, 2004, is a Uruguayan youth international who plays primarily as a centre-forward. He joined Elche on July 22, 2025, with a contract running through 2029.
During the 2025/26 La Liga season, Rodríguez made 34 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists, playing a central role in keeping Elche in the division.
The Real Madrid wrinkle
Rodríguez came through Real Madrid’s academy before his transfer to Elche in July 2025. When Madrid let him go, they retained a 50% sell-on clause, meaning they’re entitled to half the proceeds from any future transfer. On a €25 million base fee, that’s €12.5 million flowing back to the Bernabéu. If the add-ons push the total to €30 million, Madrid’s cut rises to €15 million.
For Elche, after Madrid takes its half, the club would net roughly €12.5 million from the base fee on a player they signed just one year ago.
A competitive pursuit
Hull City expressed interest starting in early June 2026, indicating that Rodríguez had been on the radar of multiple English clubs before Bournemouth stepped in. Advanced talks with Bournemouth were confirmed around July 2, 2026. Rodríguez’s existing contract with Elche ran through 2029, meaning the Spanish club had leverage in negotiations.
