Bullish, the NYSE-listed digital asset platform, posted a $280 million net loss for the second quarter of 2026, driven by a 44% year-over-year decline in digital asset sales. The company released its Q2 earnings on August 13, with an accompanying conference call scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET.
For a company hemorrhaging hundreds of millions per quarter, there’s a strange silver lining: the Q2 loss is actually less than half of what Bullish bled in Q1, when the company recorded a net loss of $604.9 million.
The numbers behind Bullish’s rough quarter
The 44% drop in digital asset sales continues a pattern visible in Q1 2026, when digital asset sales came in at $51.8 billion, already down sharply from $80.2 billion in the prior year period.
Bullish trades on the NYSE under the ticker BLSH. The company operates the Bullish Exchange, which serves institutional investors, and also owns CoinDesk, the crypto media outlet.
The GAAP losses come with an important caveat. A substantial portion of these reported losses stem from non-cash items, particularly fair-value adjustments on digital asset holdings. When the price of crypto moves, Bullish’s balance sheet moves with it, even if no actual cash walked out the door.
A pivot toward recurring revenue
CEO Tom Farley has been vocal about steering the company away from its dependence on volatile transaction revenue. In Q1, recurring revenue streams accounted for 59% of adjusted revenue.
Two initiatives stand at the center of this diversification strategy. First, Bullish has outlined plans for tokenization, the process of converting traditional financial assets into blockchain-based tokens. Second, Bullish has announced its expected acquisition of Equiniti, with a targeted close date of January 2027, pending regulatory approvals. Equiniti is a UK-based financial services company focused on share registration, employee benefits, and payment services.
The Q1 loss translated to $3.85 per diluted share. The Q2 improvement to $280 million in losses, while still substantial, at least suggests the trajectory is moving in a less alarming direction.
