Canaan Inc., the Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer, added a net 2 BTC to its treasury in July 2026, pushing total holdings to 1,917 BTC. The company also holds 3,952 ETH, a figure that has remained stable since late 2025.
A net increase of 2 BTC might sound modest for a company that mined 46 BTC during the month. The gap between mined coins and treasury growth tells a story about operational costs, strategic sell-offs, and a company that’s increasingly comfortable using its crypto reserves as a corporate finance tool.
Mining output and the numbers behind it
Canaan mined 46 BTC across July, a slight dip from the 49 BTC it produced in June. The company operates a non-joint venture fleet with an installed hashrate of roughly 10.05 EH/s, complemented by another 4.85 EH/s from joint venture projects. That puts total operational capacity at approximately 14.24 EH/s spread across twelve active mining installations.
Fleet efficiency for the non-JV operations held steady at 17.9 J/TH, a metric that measures how many joules of energy the machines consume per terahash of computing power.
Share buybacks funded by crypto
On August 4, 2026, Canaan’s board authorized using a portion of its digital asset treasury to fund ADS share repurchases. The stated rationale was that management viewed the company’s market valuation as too low relative to its underlying value.
The timing also aligns with Canaan’s efforts to meet Nasdaq Capital Market compliance requirements ahead of a January 2027 deadline. Supporting the stock price through buybacks could help the company maintain its listing.
Treasury growth over time
Canaan’s Bitcoin accumulation trajectory has been consistent. The company held 1,293 BTC at the end of 2024, grew that to 1,750 BTC by year-end 2025, and has continued adding throughout 2026 to reach the current 1,917 BTC.
The Ethereum side of the ledger tells a more dramatic story. Canaan held just 3 ETH at the end of 2024. By late 2025, that figure had ballooned to 3,952 ETH, where it has remained largely unchanged since.
