Canada to impose tariffs on more than 700 US-made products

Canada will impose counter-tariffs on more than 700 US-made products in retaliation for new US import taxes, Bloomberg reported.

The measures will apply tariffs of up to 50% to goods including US steel, aluminum, furniture, golf clubs, milk, and apparel. They are scheduled to take effect on Sept. 8.

The targeted products represented about C$27.6 billion, or $19.9 billion, of US imports in 2024. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government said the measures focus on industries hurt by US protectionism.

The list includes steel and aluminum products, fish and aquatic goods, dairy, plywood, paper, and other manufactured items. Milk, cream, and whey will face a 50% levy, while cheese and curd will be taxed at 25%.
