Cole Villemain sells out 44,444-piece NFT mint on Robinhood Chain, raising $28 million

Cole Villemain, the co-founder behind the original Pudgy Penguins NFT project, just pulled off one of the more impressive NFT launches in recent memory. His new collection, Spritehood, sold out all 44,444 customizable pixel-art RPG hero NFTs on Robinhood Chain, raising roughly $28 million based on on-chain transaction data.

The kicker: he did it without a whitelist, without paid promotions, and without the usual hype-machine playbook that most NFT projects rely on like a security blanket.

What Spritehood actually is

Spritehood consists of 44,444 NFTs featuring customizable pixel-art characters styled as RPG heroes. Think classic role-playing game archetypes rendered in sprite form, each with different traits and classes that determine rarity.

Pricing scaled with scarcity. Standard classes started at $17, while the rarest tier, a class called Death Knight, commanded roughly $117 per mint. The collection went live and sold out on August 11, 2026. It’s now listed on OpenSea under the name “spritehood-wisps,” and Villemain directed interested users to spritehood.io as the primary minting portal.

Why Robinhood Chain matters here

Spritehood didn’t launch on Ethereum mainnet or one of the usual NFT-friendly chains. It minted on Robinhood Chain, an Arbitrum-based Layer-2 network that has been steadily building its NFT ecosystem throughout 2026.

By July 2026, several collections hosted on Robinhood Chain had collectively exceeded 1,500 ETH in trading volumes. Robinhood Chain’s broader ambitions extend beyond NFTs, with the network pushing into decentralized finance and real-world asset tokenization.

Villemain’s second act

Cole Villemain’s name carries weight in NFT circles, though not without some complexity. As co-founder of Pudgy Penguins, he was part of one of the most recognizable NFT brands to emerge from the 2021-2022 boom. Pudgy Penguins launched in July 2021 with an 8,888-piece collection that sold out almost immediately. In early 2022, Villemain and fellow teammates faced backlash from the community over perceived mismanagement and treasury issues, culminating in their ouster following a community vote. The project was subsequently acquired by Luca Netz of Netz Capital for 750 ETH.

Villemain stepping back into the NFT space with Spritehood, which sold out entirely on organic demand without whitelist mechanics, generated nearly $28 million worth of digital assets in a single mint.

What this signals for the NFT market

A $28 million sellout on a Layer-2 chain, with NFT pricing ranging from $17 for standard classes to $117 for rare classes like the Death Knight, and no paid promotions or whitelist, represents a notable data point in the current NFT landscape. The collection’s presence on OpenSea under “spritehood-wisps” means secondary market trading volume and floor price data will be publicly trackable in real time.

For Robinhood Chain, the Spritehood launch adds a flagship NFT success story to a network that had already seen multiple collections collectively exceed 1,500 ETH in trading volumes as of July 2026.
