CoreWeave co-founders have sold billions in stock since lockup expired

CoreWeave co-founder and Chief Development Officer Brannin McBee sold 197,000 Class A shares on August 10, netting roughly $17.7 million. The sale was executed under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan he adopted back in March, meaning it was pre-scheduled months before the transaction actually hit.

McBee isn’t alone. CEO and co-founder Michael Intrator generated approximately $20.5 million from share sales in July alone. Since the lockup expiration in mid-2025, co-founders have sold billions in shares but retain substantial stakes.

The mechanics behind the sales

McBee’s transaction involved converting Class B shares into Class A shares before selling them on the open market. Class B shares typically carry enhanced voting rights, so the conversion-and-sell approach is a common playbook for founders looking to take money off the table while the company’s dual-class structure keeps control concentrated among insiders.

The 10b5-1 plans that both McBee and Intrator used are pre-arranged trading schedules filed with the SEC that allow corporate insiders to sell shares at predetermined times or prices. The whole point is to insulate executives from accusations of trading on material non-public information, since the plan is locked in well before any sale occurs.

COO Sachin Jain and co-founder Brian Venturo have also participated in smaller sales following the same general cadence.

What insider selling actually tells you

The key data point here is that Intrator remains one of CoreWeave’s top shareholders despite his sales activity. Collectively, co-founders retain ownership of approximately 18% of the company, which may ease some investor concerns about long-term stability.

CoreWeave’s position in the AI infrastructure race

CoreWeave went public as a GPU cloud infrastructure provider, renting out specialized computing power that AI companies need to train and run their models. The company carved out a niche by focusing exclusively on GPU workloads rather than competing across the full spectrum of cloud services the way Amazon, Microsoft, and Google do.
