Jordan Henderson, the veteran Brentford midfielder, got hurt doing something that had nothing to do with actual football. Dan Burn, his England teammate, confirmed that Henderson injured himself jumping over advertising hoardings during celebrations after an England World Cup victory.
Burn, who received a surprise call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup, revealed that Henderson’s injury came in the aftermath of a victory celebration. Not a tackle. Not a sprint. Not even a training ground incident. An advertising hoarding.
Henderson has been part of four World Cups now, spanning 2014, 2018, 2022, and the current 2026 tournament. The injury adds to what has already been a physically complicated tournament for Henderson. Earlier in the 2026 World Cup, he dealt with a muscle issue and had previously withdrawn from competition due to a hip problem. Despite those fitness concerns, he was still selected for England’s squad, a testament to his experience and Tuchel’s faith in the 36-year-old’s ability to contribute.
