Franklin Templeton joins Canton Network as Super Validator, becoming largest asset manager in the role

Franklin Templeton, managing $1.79 trillion in assets, has become a Super Validator on the Canton Network. That makes it the largest asset manager to hold the role, which comes with governance voting rights and responsibility for critical network infrastructure.

What Super Validators actually do

The Canton Network is designed as an institutional-grade blockchain where regulated financial entities can transact, settle, and manage tokenized assets. Super Validators sit at the top of the trust hierarchy.

The role involves both standard transaction validation and operating a Canton Synchronizer node. Super Validators don’t just confirm that transactions are legitimate, they help coordinate the flow of data across the entire network.

The position is invitation-only and selective. As of May 2026, Canton had 55 Super Validators, each carrying equal voting power over network governance decisions. Franklin Templeton now sits alongside institutions like Visa, which became the first major payments company to take on the Super Validator role back in March 2026.

A formal Canton Improvement Proposal outlines how Franklin Templeton’s Super Validator weight will be structured. The CIP covers on-chain treasury activities, around-the-clock create and redeem functionalities, and measurable adoption metrics.

From Benji to the validator set

This isn’t Franklin Templeton’s first involvement with Canton. The firm integrated its Benji Technology Platform with the network in November 2025. Benji is the firm’s tokenized funds platform.

In July 2026, Franklin Templeton participated in an on-chain US Treasuries transaction on Canton in collaboration with other financial entities.
