Google unveils pricing and specs for first Googlebook laptops

Google just made its most aggressive play in the laptop market since the ill-fated Pixelbook era. The company announced its new Googlebook line on September 21, 2026, a premium laptop category built from the ground up around Gemini AI, with prices starting at $899 and topping out at $1,299.

Pre-orders opened the same day, with devices hitting shelves on October 4. Five major OEM partners are building the hardware: Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

What’s actually inside these things

The entry-level device is the Acer Googlebook 14, priced at $899. Every model in the lineup ships with at least 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD storage, with higher-end configurations offering 512 GB or more.

On the processor side, buyers get a choice between Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 “Panther Lake” chips and the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite. MediaTek options are reportedly coming later. Battery life clocks in at up to 14 hours.

Every Googlebook comes with a touch-enabled OLED display.

Each device includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, three months of YouTube Premium, and complimentary subscriptions to Adobe Photoshop and CapCut for a limited time.

The AI pitch: Magic Pointer and ecosystem glue

The centerpiece feature is something called Magic Pointer, an AI-powered cursor designed to make navigating between apps, files, and devices feel more intuitive than the traditional trackpad experience.

Googlebooks run a hybrid environment that supports both Android apps and ChromeOS features, meaning users can access the same files and applications on their laptop that they use on their Pixel phone.

Gemini AI is woven throughout the operating system. Google AI Pro, included free for the first year, unlocks the full suite of Gemini capabilities for on-device processing.

Why Google is doing this now

Google’s previous attempt at premium laptop hardware, the Pixelbook line, was quietly discontinued in 2022. Instead of building everything in-house, Google recruited five of the world’s largest laptop manufacturers to produce Googlebooks under their own brands.

The $899 to $1,299 price range positions Googlebooks squarely against the MacBook Air and the upper tier of Windows ultrabooks.
