Grayscale is splitting its Zcash ETF three ways, and no, nobody’s losing anything. The asset manager announced a 3-for-1 forward share split for its ZCSH fund on the NYSE Arca, a move designed to triple the share count while cutting the per-share price to roughly a third of its current level. Total value of each investor’s position stays exactly the same.
The split comes barely a month after the ETF began trading on August 25, 2026, following its conversion from a trust structure. In that short window, the fund has pulled in more than $233 million in net inflows and ballooned to approximately $890 million in net assets as of September 17.
How the split works
Shareholders of record on September 28 will receive two additional shares for every one they currently hold. Distribution happens after market close on September 29, with split-adjusted trading kicking off on September 30.
The math is straightforward. If you held 10 shares at a net asset value of roughly $300 each, your $3,000 position becomes 30 shares at around $100 apiece. Same pie, more slices.
For a fund that has already racked up more than $11 billion in cumulative trading volume since late August, adding more retail participation could meaningfully deepen the order book and tighten bid-ask spreads.
ZEC’s rally and the ETF effect
The underlying asset has been on a tear. ZEC, the native token of the Zcash protocol, recently traded between $1,478 and $1,521, representing an approximately 25% gain over the past week.
The Grayscale Zcash ETF is the first US-listed product to offer exposure to ZEC through an exchange-traded structure.
Network fundamentals are reinforcing the momentum. Zcash’s hash rate has climbed to nearly 32 GSol/s, and mining difficulty has hit a record of approximately 291 million.
What’s ahead for Zcash
Beyond the ETF split, there’s a meaningful protocol upgrade on the horizon. The NU7 network upgrade is scheduled for November 5, 2026, and aims to reduce block times on the Zcash network.
Zcash uses zero-knowledge proofs to allow fully shielded transactions, essentially letting users transact without revealing sender, receiver, or amount on the public blockchain.
