Hanwha Life defeats T1 to reach LCK upper bracket finals

Hanwha Life Esports just sent T1 packing from the upper bracket of the LCK 2026 playoffs. The series ended 3-1 in HLE’s favor on September 2, a result that felt less like an upset and more like a confirmation of the current power structure in Korean League of Legends.

HLE advances to the upper bracket finals, staying on the comfortable side of the double-elimination bracket. T1, meanwhile, drops to the lower bracket, where the margin for error is exactly zero.

A series reversal with familiar undertones

T1 took an early game, and for a brief moment, the most decorated organization in League of Legends history looked like it might reassert its dominance. Three straight map wins later, the series was over.

This wasn’t even the first time HLE dispatched T1 in recent weeks. On August 23, during the final stretch of the regular season, HLE swept T1 2-0 to lock down the second seed entering playoffs.

T1 had earned its spot in this round by edging past BNK FearX 3-2 on August 29.

HLE’s 2026 has been ridiculous

Earlier in 2026, HLE captured the Mid-Season Invitational title, defeating BLG 3-2 in the finals. Zeus earned MVP honors in that series. HLE carried that form directly into the LCK summer regular season, earning the second seed in the playoffs.

The match was played on patch 26.16 at CHZZK LoL Park.

What T1 faces now

For T1, the loss doesn’t end their season. The LCK’s double-elimination format means they’ll fight through the lower bracket, where one more loss would send them home. The top six teams in the playoffs are eligible for Worlds 2026 qualification, and both T1 and HLE are squarely in that conversation.
