Hey Wallet, the Solana-based social wallet that let people send crypto through their X handles and tip creators on Discord, announced it’s shutting down. The service posted the news on its official X account, directing users to back up their wallets at heywallet.com before the lights go off for good.
No specific shutdown date was given. No reason was offered either, just a thank-you to the community and a polite but urgent reminder to export private keys and move assets elsewhere.
What Hey Wallet actually did
Hey Wallet launched in 2021, born out of a Solana hackathon with a straightforward premise: connect web2 social networks with blockchain functionality.
In practice, that meant users could send SOL to someone’s X handle instead of copying and pasting a 44-character wallet address. They could tip content creators on Discord, swap tokens through Telegram, and mint NFTs, all from within the social platforms they were already using.
A pattern forming in wallet closures
Hey Wallet isn’t closing in isolation. It joins a growing list of wallet services that have shut down this year, including HaHa Wallet and Magic Eden’s ME Wallet.
What affected users should do now
The immediate concern is practical. Anyone who used Hey Wallet to store SOL or other Solana-based tokens needs to act before the service goes offline. The company has pointed users to heywallet.com to export their private keys, which can then be imported into any compatible Solana wallet.
The process itself is straightforward: visit heywallet.com, export your wallet’s private key or seed phrase, and import it into Phantom, Solflare, or another Solana wallet. Any tokens held in the wallet belong to the blockchain, not to Hey Wallet’s servers, so the assets themselves aren’t at risk as long as users complete the migration.
