human.tech, which develops a privacy-first digital identity infrastructure that combines cryptographic identity verification with wallet technology, has rolled out the Clean SDK, a developer toolkit that allows developers to build privacy-focused web3 applications with built-in identity verification and compliance features.
Launching alongside Aztec v5, the SDK leverages zero-knowledge cryptography to let applications verify users and screen transactions without exposing or storing users’ personal data.
The toolkit includes three verification layers: Proof of Innocence for sanctions screening, Proof of Personhood for verifying unique users and Proof of Clean Hands for higher-assurance identity verification.
Shield, the first application built with the SDK, applies these capabilities to enable private asset transfers between Ethereum and Aztec. According to human.tech, Shield allows users and autonomous AI agents to bridge assets while proving both the legitimacy of the sender and the compliance status of the funds without revealing their identities.
With the launch of the Clean SDK, human.tech aims to balance user privacy with regulatory compliance, one of web3’s biggest tradeoffs. The project said the toolkit could support future decentralized finance, AI, and institutional applications that require programmable privacy.
“Privacy without accountability invites abuse, while accountability without privacy becomes surveillance,” Shady El Damaty, co-founder of human.tech, commented on the release. “The Clean SDK eliminates that false choice by giving developers programmable building blocks for private, accountable applications.
“Shield demonstrates what’s possible today, but our goal is to enable an entire ecosystem of applications built on the same foundation,” Damaty added.
