The Intel Extreme Masters is heading back to Beijing, and competitive Counter-Strike hasn’t been played in China’s capital for seven years. IEM Beijing 2026 will bring 16 of the world’s best CS2 teams to the Bloomage Biotech Biohyalux ECM Arena from November 2 through November 8, with $1.25 million in prize money on the line.
The invite list will be determined by the Valve Regional Standings published in August 2026, meaning top-ranked teams globally will receive direct invitations while remaining spots fill through regional allocations and qualifiers.
What the return to Beijing actually means
ESL, the tournament organizer, hasn’t staged an IEM event in Beijing since 2019. The event is being organized in partnership with the Beijing Esports Industry Development Association, which positions it as part of a broader municipal push to attract competitive gaming events to the Haidian District.
The venue itself, Bloomage Biotech Biohyalux ECM Arena, will host a live audience for the LAN event.
Tournament structure and competitive stakes
Teams like Spirit and MOUZ are among the expected participants based on current CS2 rankings, though the final invite list won’t crystallize until those August VRS updates drop.
IEM Beijing 2026 slots into the ESL Pro Tour and counts toward ESL Grand Slam VII. The Grand Slam awards a massive bonus to any team that wins four different ESL events within a set window of tournaments. Adding Beijing to the circuit gives contending teams another opportunity to check off one of those required victories.
China’s esports landscape and the bigger picture
ESL’s decision to return to Beijing rather than staging another Chengdu event is worth noting. Chengdu served as the default Chinese host city for ESL’s recent events, and shifting back to Beijing diversifies the geographic footprint of the Pro Tour in Asia.
The $1.25 million prize pool places IEM Beijing comfortably among the upper tier of CS2 tournaments, though it falls short of Major championship purses.
