India's NSE IPO Could Value Exchange at $46B Ahead of September Listing

Reuters reported on September 9, citing a person familiar with the matter, that India’s National Stock Exchange may price its initial public offering at ₹1,700 to ₹1,785 per share.

At ₹1,785 per share, Reuters said the reported range would imply a valuation of about ₹4.4 trillion, or $46.41 billion, for the exchange.

NSE had not officially confirmed the proposed IPO calendar as of September 9.

Reuters-reported price range puts NSE at ₹4.4 trillion

The ₹1,700–₹1,785 range remains a reported potential price rather than a confirmed offering term. The $46.41 billion figure reflects the implied valuation at ₹1,785 per share.

Reuters’ report was published on September 9, placing the suggested pricing ahead of a possible September market debut. Any final terms would need to be set through the offering process.

The proposed 6% NSE sale is an offer for sale

NSE’s June 17 draft red herring prospectus sets out an offer for sale of up to 148,905,525 existing shares, or nearly 6% of its paid-up equity. The share count and structure appear in the prospectus.

Under the proposed structure, the selling shareholders—not NSE—would receive the proceeds.

Unlike a primary share issuance, the transaction would not involve NSE selling newly issued stock and receiving the capital raised.

September timetable awaits confirmation

The IPO is expected to open on September 18 and list on September 25, according to The Tribune’s September 9 report, citing sources and PTI. However, NSE had not officially confirmed the dates at that point; its September 6 investor-relations disclosure said it had issued a Regulation 30 clarification concerning media reports and market rumours related to the exchange. The reported pricing and timetable should therefore not be treated as formal exchange confirmation.
