The Korea e-Sports Association, better known as KeSPA, is leaving nothing to chance ahead of the 2026 Asian Games. The organization has scheduled two closed-door evaluation matches for South Korea’s League of Legends national team, pitting them against the United States and Vietnam in back-to-back best-of-five series on September 19 and 20.
The schedule breaks down cleanly. On September 19, South Korea faces the United States. The following day, they take on Vietnam. Both matchups follow a best-of-five format, giving the coaching staff ample data to evaluate roster decisions, draft tendencies, and in-game adaptability across multiple games.
Vietnam’s roster is particularly noteworthy. The team fielded against South Korea will reportedly mirror their exact Asian Games lineup, meaning the Koreans get a genuine look at one of their likely competitors. The US squad, meanwhile, features players with international experience, offering a different stylistic challenge.
Hanwha Life is on board as the official partner for the evaluation matches. The insurer’s involvement in esports isn’t new. Hanwha has been deeply embedded in Korea’s competitive gaming ecosystem through its ownership of the LCK franchise Hanwha Life Esports.
For fans who can’t make it to Busan, the matches will be streamed exclusively on Disney+. Additional on-site partner programs are also planned, though the primary focus remains competitive preparation.
The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will feature 11 gold medals across 13 esports titles, making it the largest esports program in Asian Games history. KeSPA’s evaluation matches are part of a broader timeline that includes a send-off ceremony planned for August 2026. KeSPA is also organizing similar evaluation events for other titles, including PUBG Mobile.
Hosting the matches in Busan rather than Seoul also carries symbolic weight. The Busan Cinema Center, which holds around 2,400 spectators and is typically known for its role in the Busan International Film Festival, serves as the venue for the evaluation matches.
