Joe Rodon isn’t going anywhere. Leeds United announced on August 19, 2026, that the Welsh defender has signed a contract extension keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2030, adding two years to his previous deal.
From loan signing to long-term cornerstone
Rodon first arrived on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023, quickly establishing himself as a defensive anchor. Leeds made the move permanent in July 2024, paying Tottenham a reported £10 million. He signed a four-year deal at the time, running through 2028.
At 28 years old, Rodon has racked up 115 appearances in Leeds colors. The extension through 2030 means Rodon will be 32 by the time this deal expires.
A winding path to stability
Born in Swansea on October 22, 1997, he came through the Swansea City academy and broke into the first team before Tottenham came calling in 2020, paying £11 million for his services. Rodon struggled for regular playing time in north London. A loan spell at Rennes in France followed before the move to Leeds.
His contribution to Leeds’ promotion back to the Premier League was substantial.
What this means for Leeds’ Premier League ambitions
By securing Rodon through 2030, Leeds negotiated from a position of reasonable strength, extending two years before his previous deal was set to expire in 2028. Getting this done early avoids losing the asset for nothing or paying over the odds in the final year of a contract.
