Atletico de Madrid’s fan token, ATM, trades in the $1.63 to $1.67 range with a market cap of roughly $14.75 million. Its 24-hour trading volume has cleared $4 million, suggesting genuine, sustained engagement from holders and speculators alike.
Manchester United’s fan token, MUFC, presents a starkly different picture. Liquidity data is inconsistent at best, and trading activity is notably thinner compared to peer tokens like ATM or even Manchester City’s CITY token.
Why the liquidity gap matters
Thin liquidity means wider bid-ask spreads, more price slippage on trades, and a general reluctance from larger players to enter positions.
The discrepancy is especially notable because fan tokens tend to see volume spikes around high-profile matches and transfer announcements. Mbeumo’s transfer to United in July 2025 was exactly the kind of headline that should have attracted attention to MUFC.
ATM’s relatively healthy trading ecosystem suggests the problem isn’t with fan tokens as a category. It’s club-specific.
The broader takeaway for anyone watching the Chiliz ecosystem is that brand size alone doesn’t guarantee token success. Manchester United is arguably the most recognized football club on the planet, yet its digital asset trails behind a Spanish club with a fraction of the global following.
