Manchester United is tracking AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with interest in a deal worth around €50 million. The problem: Monaco already rejected a €50 million bid from Crystal Palace and has since set their asking price at €60 million.
Camara is 22 years old, Senegalese, and has 49 senior caps for Senegal, scoring seven goals. He won Player of the Tournament at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
From Metz to Monaco to Premier League wishlist
Camara joined Monaco from Metz in July 2024 for €15 million on a five-year deal. In roughly two years at the club, he has racked up 53 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals. His 2025-26 Ligue 1 campaign specifically saw him contribute three goals in 24 appearances before the summer window opened.
Before Monaco, he scored a 58-meter goal against Monaco in October 2023 while at Metz. He also featured for Monaco in UEFA Champions League football.
Monaco’s calculus
For Monaco, the calculation is straightforward: they paid €15 million for a player now valued at €60 million, and they hold a contract running until June 2029. The club’s public position, as of early August 2026, is that they would prefer to keep Camara for at least one more season unless someone puts a genuinely significant offer on the table. A €50 million opening from Crystal Palace did not meet that bar.
Liverpool has also been mentioned as monitoring the situation, and Newcastle showed interest earlier in the transfer window. As of early August 2026, no formal bids from Manchester United have been confirmed, leaving the situation in the rumor stage.
Crystal Palace’s rejected bid at €50 million established a floor. Monaco’s response established a ceiling of sorts at €60 million, meaning the actual deal, if one gets done this summer, likely lands somewhere in that range. Camara’s contract length until June 2029 means there is no expiring-deal pressure forcing anyone’s hand.
