Marcus Rashford is back at Manchester United. The 28-year-old forward has linked up with the squad at their pre-season training camp in County Kildare, Ireland, marking his first involvement with the club since December 2024.
The long road back to Old Trafford
The departure began in January 2025, when Rashford moved to Aston Villa on loan. That was followed by a more high-profile stint at Barcelona for the 2025-26 season, where he managed 14 goals in 49 appearances.
Barcelona opted not to trigger a reported transfer option worth around 30 million euros, sending Rashford back to a club where his future had seemed all but over. He remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028.
Carrick’s squad comes together
Head coach Michael Carrick confirmed the full squad’s presence in Dublin this week, with Rashford among the group.
The pre-season schedule includes a match against Leeds United on August 12, followed by a fixture against AC Milan on August 15, with matches spanning both Ireland and Poland.
What went wrong, and what comes next
Rashford rejoined the Manchester United squad on August 8, 2026, after an absence stretching back to December 2024. His time at Barcelona, where he scored 14 goals across 49 appearances, showed he can still find the net, though the numbers were not enough to convince the Catalan club to make the move permanent at the 30 million euro asking price.
