Meta’s Muse reaches No. 2 or No. 3 in US App Store following launch

Meta’s new AI agent app Muse hit No. 2 in the US App Store within two days of its September 8 launch.

The company characterized Muse’s opening as “a slower start” compared to previous launches like Threads or Meta AI.

What Muse actually does

Muse is not another chatbot. It’s a personal AI agent designed to handle multi-step tasks: booking travel, managing calendars, making purchases through Stripe Link, and executing workflows that go beyond the standard “ask a question, get an answer” loop.

The app runs on Meta’s Muse Spark model family, specifically version 1.3, which rolled out in early September 2026. Each user’s Muse operates on a dedicated secure virtual machine in Meta’s cloud.

It’s available on iOS, Android, the web at muse.ai, and through WhatsApp. AI glasses support is reportedly in the pipeline.

The app is restricted to adults 18 and older in the US for now.

The business model

Muse uses a tiered subscription approach. There’s a free tier with limitations, a $20 per month “Power” plan, and a $100 per month “Maximum” tier for users who want the full suite of capabilities.

The Muse Spark model already demonstrated its pull before the standalone app existed. When the model launched in April 2026, it drove Meta AI app downloads from No. 57 to No. 5 in the App Store.

Market reaction and Meta’s AI trajectory

Meta shares gained roughly 0.6% on September 10, two days after launch. That move coincided with a JPMorgan upgrade, making it difficult to isolate how much of the bump was Muse-specific versus broader analyst sentiment.

Alexandr Wang’s Superintelligence Labs plays a central role in Muse’s development.

The architectural decision to give each user a dedicated virtual machine addresses the privacy concerns that have dogged AI products from multiple companies.
