Motherwell narrows managerial search to final three candidates

6 hours ago 14

Motherwell FC has trimmed its managerial search down to three finalists, with Portuguese coach Gonçalo Feio emerging as one of the names under serious consideration. The Scottish Premiership club is moving quickly to fill its vacant managerial position as the summer window approaches.

Feio, who turned 36 in January, brings a distinctly continental profile to a club that has traditionally drawn from a more familiar pool of British and Irish coaching talent.

Who is Gonçalo Feio?

His most high-profile stint came at Legia Warsaw in 2024, one of Poland’s biggest clubs. After his time in Warsaw, Feio moved to French club Dunkerque in 2025 before taking charge of Radomiak Radom back in Poland during the 2025-2026 season. His most recent appointment came on March 29, 2026, when he was named manager of Tondela in his native Portugal.

That Tondela contract runs through June 30, 2026. If Motherwell wants Feio, the timing is convenient. His deal expires imminently, which would eliminate the need for any compensation negotiations between the two clubs.

Motherwell’s managerial vacancy

While Feio’s name has surfaced publicly, the identities of the other two candidates on the shortlist have not been confirmed through official channels.

Neither Motherwell nor Feio has made any public statement confirming his involvement in the process.

A June 30 end date means any deal could be finalized rapidly once terms are agreed. Motherwell will want its new manager in place well before pre-season begins to shape the squad for the 2026-2027 campaign.
