OpenAI acquires NextSlide team to enhance ChatGPT features

OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup that built tools for converting notes and research into polished presentations. The entire NextSlide team has joined OpenAI, where they’re now working on ChatGPT features.

The deal was finalized in early 2026, months before the public announcement landed on LinkedIn and NextSlide’s website around August 7-8. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, which tracks with how OpenAI typically handles smaller acquisitions.

From notes to slides to Sam Altman’s org chart

NextSlide was founded by Ahmed Beshry in mid-2025 with a straightforward premise: take messy notes, prompts, and documents and turn them into presentation-ready slides using AI.

Beshry credited Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of AGI deployment, with recognizing the startup’s vision and facilitating the acquisition. The full team made the transition into OpenAI’s ranks, though the exact headcount hasn’t been shared publicly.

What this means for ChatGPT’s roadmap

Beshry and team are now contributing directly to ChatGPT feature development. While OpenAI hasn’t outlined specific product launches tied to the acquisition, the direction is clear: ChatGPT is evolving from a text-generation tool into a full-spectrum content creation platform.
