Paris Saint-Germain, the club once synonymous with blank-check spending and galáctico-level acquisitions, just pulled off something nobody saw coming. PSG raked in approximately €400 million from player sales during the summer 2026 transfer window, placing it at the top of European clubs in transfer income.
The big exits
The headline deal was Bradley Barcola’s departure to Liverpool for around €145 million, bonuses included. That sale alone qualifies as the largest transfer in Ligue 1 history.
But Barcola wasn’t the only significant departure. Ibrahim Mbaye headed to Aston Villa in a deal worth €55 to €60 million. Gonçalo Ramos was transferred to AC Milan for €74 to €75 million. Lee Kang-in moved to Atlético Madrid for €35 to €40 million. And Randal Kolo Muani joined Juventus in a deal reportedly worth between €41 and €58 million depending on loan structure and add-ons.
None of these six were regular starters in PSG’s recent Champions League campaigns. They were depth pieces, rotation options, players who saw more of the bench than the pitch under coach Luis Enrique.
From spenders to sellers
On the buying side, PSG kept things remarkably restrained. Total incoming signings came in under €210 million, producing a net capital gain of roughly €200 million for the window. For context, this is a club that once spent over €200 million on a single player (Neymar, summer 2017, €222 million).
Under president Nasser al-Khelaifi, PSG has been gradually recalibrating its financial posture over the past several seasons. PSG leveraged its recent Champions League success to inflate the market value of players who might otherwise have commanded far less. A Champions League pedigree, even on a substitute’s playing time, adds a premium that buying clubs are clearly willing to pay.
Luis Enrique’s coaching philosophy played a role too. By rotating heavily and giving meaningful minutes to a wide squad, PSG created a portfolio of players with genuine top-level experience. That experience translated directly into higher transfer fees when those players hit the market.
