Plenti raises $3M from Tether, Verda Ventures to expand in Latin America

1 hour ago 18

Plenti, a Colombian fintech startup built around multicurrency accounts and digital dollar access, has closed a $3 million funding round backed by Tether and Verda Ventures. The capital is earmarked for expanding the platform’s footprint across Latin America and broadening its product suite beyond simple transactions.

For a company that started with roughly $200K in seed money from Platanus Ventures and personal networks, the jump to a Tether-backed round is a meaningful step up.

What Plenti actually does

Founded in 2023 in Medellín, Plenti offers multicurrency accounts that let users hold and move USD (digital dollars), EUR, and COP. The primary audience is freelancers and remote workers.

As of mid-August 2026, Plenti has onboarded over 150,000 users and facilitated more than 680 million USDT in transactions.

The company has also rolled out fractional trading of Tether Gold (XAUT), letting users buy in with as little as roughly $6.

Why Tether keeps writing checks in Latin America

This isn’t Tether’s first foray into the region. Tether has invested significantly in multiple Latin American fintech firms throughout 2025 and 2026, extending over $20 million into Ualá alone.

From transaction tool to full financial account

The company plans to transition from being primarily a transactional platform to a comprehensive financial account solution. That means integrating traditional fiat banking rails alongside crypto offerings, specifically USDT and XAUT.

With $3 million in fresh capital, the real question is whether Plenti can maintain its transaction volume growth as it pushes beyond Colombia. Processing 680 million USDT with 150,000 users means the average user is moving a significant amount of money through the platform, a signal that the core user base is genuinely reliant on the product rather than just experimenting with it.
