Robinhood Chain just crossed 2 million monthly active users, a 50% jump in roughly a week. For a blockchain that only went live on July 1, that’s the kind of growth curve that makes competitors nervously refresh their dashboards.
The Ethereum Layer-2 network, built on the Arbitrum Orbit stack, has been on a tear since its public mainnet debut. By July 22, the platform had already recorded approximately 1.6 million MAU. Now, just days later, that figure has blown past the 2 million mark.
The numbers behind the surge
Total value locked on Robinhood Chain reached roughly $480 million, itself reflecting a 50% increase over a single week. Daily transactions approached 10 million. The cumulative decentralized exchange volume during the first three weeks landed somewhere between $8 billion and $9 billion, with the vast majority of that volume driven by memecoin trading.
On July 21, Robinhood Chain posted 323,969 daily active users, surpassing Coinbase’s Base, which logged 274,520 users on the same day. It was the second time since launch that Robinhood’s chain had overtaken Base in daily active users.
Why it’s growing this fast
Robinhood has approximately 28 million users on its core brokerage platform. Only about 5.7% of Robinhood’s existing user base has started using the chain so far, meaning the vast majority of Robinhood’s customers haven’t yet engaged with on-chain activity.
The chain features 100ms block times, designed for financial services rather than the multi-second confirmation times users encounter on many competing chains. Robinhood Chain also operates without a native token. Users interact with third-party tokens and protocols instead.
What this means for investors
The bearish case is equally clear. Nearly all current activity is speculative memecoin trading, raising legitimate questions about sustainability. The absence of a native token means Robinhood Chain lacks one of the primary mechanisms that other L2s use to incentivize long-term user retention and developer commitment.
TVL at $480 million is solid for a three-week-old chain, but it’s a fraction of what established L2s like Arbitrum and Base hold. The real test for Robinhood Chain will come as it attempts to transition from memecoin activity to tokenized real-world assets and broader DeFi functionality — the use cases its 100ms block times and financial services architecture are designed to support.
