Robinhood integrates crypto trading into UK app via Bitstamp

2 hours ago 11

Robinhood is bringing crypto trading to its UK app, powered by the infrastructure it picked up when it bought Bitstamp for $200 million last year. The move makes Robinhood’s UK platform a one-stop shop for stocks, ISAs, options, futures, and now digital assets.

From acquisition to activation

Robinhood closed its Bitstamp acquisition on June 2, 2025, gaining more than 50 active licenses and registrations across multiple jurisdictions.

The UK piece of this puzzle clicked into place on July 31, 2026, when Robinhood UK Ltd secured registration with the Financial Conduct Authority as a cryptoasset firm. That registration confirms the company meets the FCA’s anti-money laundering standards, a prerequisite for offering crypto services to British customers.

During a keynote on July 1, 2026, Robinhood telegraphed the launch, announcing plans to bring crypto to the UK “soon.” The company framed it as part of a broader ambition to become an all-in-one financial platform, not just a stock trading app that happens to list a few tokens on the side.

Bitstamp, which has been operational since 2011, already served UK residents before the acquisition. That existing customer base and operational history gave Robinhood a running start rather than a cold launch.

Why the UK, why now

The timing is strategic. The UK is building out a comprehensive crypto regulatory framework expected to take effect in 2027. By securing FCA registration and launching services now, Robinhood positions itself as an established, compliant player before the new rules reshape the competitive landscape.

Bitstamp’s role in the rollout

Rather than rebuilding from the ground up, Robinhood is leaning on Bitstamp’s existing infrastructure for trading, custody, and execution in the UK. The company has indicated it will maintain Bitstamp’s brand and interface during the initial rollout stages, suggesting a phased integration rather than an overnight rebrand.

For Bitstamp’s existing UK customers, the integration means access to Robinhood’s broader suite of traditional financial products. For Robinhood’s UK brokerage users, it means crypto is now on the menu.
