RockawayX targets $150M for new hedge fund as crypto VC expands liquid strategies

1 hour ago 12

RockawayX, the Prague-headquartered digital asset investment firm managing roughly $2 billion in assets, is setting its sights on raising $150 million for a new hedge fund. The move signals a broader pivot for the firm, which built its reputation on venture capital bets, toward liquid strategies designed to attract institutional capital.

The track record backing the bet

RockawayX’s first venture fund, VC I, closed at approximately $120 million to $123 million and delivered a distributed-to-paid-in (DPI) ratio of 2.1x and a multiple on invested capital (MOIC) of 5.4x.

The sequel fund, VC II, closed at $125 million in Q1 2025, slightly exceeding its $120 million target. That fund leans heavily into the Solana ecosystem, with roughly 50% to 75% of its capital allocated to projects building on the network.

The existing Market Neutral Fund has managed over $110 million in assets, with zero defaults and consistent double-digit returns.

From venture capital to liquid strategies

RockawayX hired David Shang in August 2026 to lead its liquid assets and real-money gaming divisions. Shang’s mandate covers both traditional liquid crypto strategies and the emerging intersection of blockchain-based gaming and real-money applications.

The firm’s on-chain vault business surpassed $100 million in total value locked by mid-May 2026, placing RockawayX among the top ten curators in the space.

With approximately $2 billion in assets and potential growth toward $2.7 billion, RockawayX is positioning itself as a full-stack digital asset manager covering venture, credit, liquidity, and now a dedicated hedge fund.
