The Solana Foundation just pulled off what might be the most mainstream crypto sponsorship deal of 2026. It’s now the official Presenting Sponsor of both the World Series of Poker and WSOP Paradise, bringing fee-free crypto payments to the biggest tournament series in poker history.
For the first time ever, players can buy into WSOP tournaments using SOL, USDC, and USDT directly through the WSOP LIVE app. No conversion fees, no friction. Just scan, send, and sit down at the table.
The Solana Showdown
The centerpiece of this partnership is the “WSOP: Solana Showdown,” an invitational tournament scheduled for August 4, 2026. The feature table will mix professional poker players with some of crypto’s most recognizable online personalities.
Jamie Gold, the 2006 WSOP Main Event champion, is hosting the event. He’ll be joined by crypto influencers Ansem, CryptoWendyO, and Gabriel Haines, creating an unusual crossover that puts degens and poker grinders at the same table.
Solana isn’t stopping at one event, either. The foundation is sponsoring established poker ambassadors including three-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth and Michael Mizrachi, both of whom bring significant credibility and fan followings to the partnership.
There will also be creator and celebrity VIP tables, plus exclusive hospitality events in both Las Vegas and the Bahamas. The Bahamas component ties into WSOP Paradise, where Solana plans to introduce stablecoin payout options later this year, potentially in December 2026.
Why poker, why now
The zero-fee buy-in structure is particularly clever. Traditional payment methods at poker tournaments involve cash handling logistics, wire transfer delays, and sometimes conversion fees for international players. Letting someone buy into a $10K tournament by sending USDC from their phone removes a genuine pain point, not just a marketing talking point.
What this means for investors and the broader market
For Solana specifically, this is a brand-awareness play with potential transaction volume upside. Every buy-in processed through the WSOP LIVE app using SOL creates on-chain activity. Every stablecoin payout at WSOP Paradise later this year demonstrates real-world utility to an audience that measures value in pot odds, not tokenomics.
Solana isn’t just buying logo placement. It’s building actual payment infrastructure into the WSOP experience, which means the partnership has utility beyond brand awareness.
The stablecoin payout feature planned for WSOP Paradise will be the real test. Accepting crypto is one thing. Paying out tournament winnings in USDC or USDT is an entirely different regulatory and operational challenge, one that could set a precedent for how crypto integrates with prize-money events across all of professional gaming and sports.
