The biggest names in asset management are doubling down on Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin bet. Twelve of Strategy’s top fifteen institutional shareholders added a combined $1.2 billion to their MSTR positions during Q2 2026, extending a trend that’s been building momentum all year.
That Q2 figure comes on the heels of an even larger Q1 inflow, when thirteen of the top fifteen holders poured $4.6 billion into the stock. Combined, the two quarters represent nearly $5.8 billion in fresh institutional conviction flowing into what is essentially a leveraged Bitcoin vehicle trading on the Nasdaq.
Who’s buying and how much they own
As of June 30, 2026, Capital International Investors held the largest institutional stake at 9.57% of outstanding shares. Vanguard affiliates collectively controlled 8.31%, while BlackRock maintained a 5.32% position.
The Bitcoin treasury keeps growing
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, held approximately 843,775 Bitcoin as of late July 2026. That represents an 11% increase quarter-over-quarter and a 25% jump year-to-date.
The company’s average cost basis sits at roughly $75,476 per Bitcoin.
To fund its relentless accumulation, Strategy has been busy on the capital markets side. The company raised more than $7.5 billion year-to-date through a variety of offerings, including equity issuances and its newer STRF and STRC digital credit instruments. At the same time, it reduced its convertible debt by 18% to $6.7 billion.
What the institutional surge actually means
The Q1-to-Q2 pattern is worth noting. The pace of accumulation slowed considerably, from $4.6 billion down to $1.2 billion across twelve holders in Q2.
