Key Points

  • Elon Musk has described the upcoming Tesla Roadster reveal as “unforgettable” in recent social media activity
  • Nearly ten years have passed since the second-generation Roadster’s 2017 announcement with no production start
  • Chief designer Franz von Holzhausen recently told Jay Leno the event will happen “very soon”
  • VP Lars Moravy stated in July that the Roadster is preparing for a “mind blowing” demonstration
  • Initially scheduled for April 2026, the unveiling was moved to August with no new date confirmed

Tesla’s much-anticipated Roadster has resurfaced in public conversation once more.

In a recent social media exchange, Elon Musk endorsed claims that the forthcoming Roadster demonstration will be “unforgettable.” His comment came in response to footage from his previous Joe Rogan Experience interview. The characterization is notable for a vehicle that made its public debut seven years ago.

$TSLA ROADSTER REVEAL COULD COME THIS MONTH

Tesla is planning to unveil its redesigned next-gen Roadster as early as this month, The Information reports, with a SpaceX-assisted “FLYING” demonstration expected at its McGregor, Texas test site.

During a conversation with Jay Leno this week, Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla‘s design chief, indicated the unveiling would occur “very soon,” though he stopped short of providing specific timing.

Last July, Lars Moravy, Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, confirmed the Roadster remains “definitely in development.” He revealed the engineering team had demonstrated new technology to Musk that generated considerable enthusiasm from the CEO. Moravy characterized the planned public demonstration as “mind blowing.”

Originally slated for April 2026, the unveiling failed to materialize. The date was subsequently shifted to August, though no formal announcement has been made.

Years of Postponements

Tesla introduced the second-generation Roadster in 2017. Almost a decade has elapsed without the vehicle entering manufacturing.

So… is this Elon’s way of telling us the Roadster demo is going to be even crazier than expected? 👀 https://t.co/yKcmaRrsF2 pic.twitter.com/kidUkKeKkZ

In early 2024, Musk projected that initial customer deliveries would occur in the first half of 2025. That timeline has come and gone without fulfillment.

The performance specifications remain impressive on paper. Tesla has advertised a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 1.9 seconds, maximum velocity exceeding 400 km/h, approximately 1,000 kilometers of driving range, and a base price around 173,000 euros.

Tesla has also repeatedly suggested an optional SpaceX cold gas thruster system that might enable the vehicle to hover momentarily. Just yesterday, Musk referenced the possibility of flying cars, maintaining that dimension of speculation.

Current Status

The latest official update from within Tesla came via Moravy in July 2025. He verified that development continues and a demonstration is in preparation.

Von Holzhausen’s recent remarks to Jay Leno represent the most current public indication, though “very soon” remains vague without accompanying specifics.

Enthusiasm among enthusiasts is waning. The Roadster has evolved into something of a punchline in automotive communities—a perpetually imminent vehicle that never quite arrives.

As of August 14, 2026, no official unveiling date has been established.
