The MongolZ knocked Monte out of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 on June 14, winning a best-of-three elimination match during the Swiss Stage and ending the European squad’s tournament run in Germany.
The result means Monte, a team built around a European core featuring players like Bymas and Rainwaker, heads home while The MongolZ continue their push deeper into one of CS2’s most prestigious events.
What happened in the match
The elimination match took place during Swiss Stage 3 of the tournament. The MongolZ fielded their established five-man roster of 910, bLitz, cobrazera, mzinho, and Techno.
Monte came in with their own experienced roster, including afro, AZUWU, Bymas, Gizmy, and Rainwaker.
The bigger picture at IEM Cologne Major 2026
The IEM Cologne Major 2026 is the fifth CS2 Major Championship, and it carries a prize pool of approximately $1.25 million. The tournament runs from June 2 through June 21 in Cologne, Germany, with 32 teams from across the globe competing for the title.
Organized by ESL, the event follows a Swiss Stage that whittles down the field through a series of best-of-one and best-of-three matches, feeding into a playoff bracket.
With the tournament running through June 21, there’s still plenty of CS2 left to play in Cologne.
