Total crypto market adds over $130B in 30 days, and nobody can pinpoint why

The crypto market just got $130 billion heavier over the past 30 days. No landmark regulation. No corporate treasury bombshell. No meme coin mania this time. Just steady, persistent capital flowing in like a faucet someone forgot to turn off.

The numbers behind the quiet surge

Bitcoin’s market capitalization climbed from approximately $1.274 trillion on July 5 to around $1.33 trillion by July 24. That’s roughly $56 billion in added value over less than three weeks, a gain that in any traditional market would dominate front pages.

Ethereum wasn’t sitting idle either. Its market cap rose from about $215 billion to approximately $233 billion across the same window. That’s an $18 billion jump, or roughly 8.4% growth in under 20 days.

The altcoin universe, excluding both Bitcoin and Ethereum, was sitting at $666.58 billion as of early July. Given that the total market added over $130 billion in 30 days and we can account for a significant portion through BTC and ETH alone, alts clearly participated in the rally too.

Why the absence of a catalyst matters

There were no major corporate announcements or significant regulatory shifts during the period. The market simply ground higher, day after day, with the persistence of someone climbing stairs instead of taking the elevator.

What this means for investors

For Bitcoin specifically, trading above a $1.3 trillion market cap puts it firmly in the territory of a large-cap macro asset. At this scale, movements in BTC’s market cap increasingly correlate with broader liquidity conditions and institutional appetite rather than retail sentiment.

Ethereum’s roughly 8% gain in the same period is notable for a different reason. ETH has spent much of the past cycle playing second fiddle to Bitcoin’s narrative dominance, so a parallel rise suggests the appetite for risk is broadening.

The altcoin market’s participation adds another layer. With altcoins (excluding BTC and ETH) representing over $666 billion in combined market cap at the start of July, even modest percentage gains translate into billions of dollars in new value.
