World Foundation raises $53M in WLD token sale with one-year lockup

The World Foundation just closed a $53 million token sale, and the buyers won’t be able to touch their WLD for a full year.

Pantera led what the foundation is calling a “first close” of the WLD token sale, suggesting more capital could follow. The investor roster includes Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini, and Susquehanna.

The OTC playbook

The organization, which oversees the World Network (formerly Worldcoin), has been selling tokens from its existing supply to fund operations rather than minting new ones. WLD has a hard cap of 10 billion tokens, and governance-controlled inflation isn’t on the table until after 2038. So every operational dollar the foundation needs has to come from selling tokens it already holds.

Back in March 2026, the foundation executed a separate $65 million OTC sale through its subsidiary World Assets, Ltd., moving roughly 239 million WLD tokens at an average price of $0.27 each. Some of those tokens carried a six-month lockup. Before that, the project had raised $135 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Bain Capital Crypto, capital earmarked for expanding its biometric verification hardware known as the Orb.

The one-year lockup on this latest $53 million raise is notably longer than the six-month restriction on the March sale.

Where WLD stands today

As of mid-2026, WLD trades around $0.38 with a market cap of approximately $1.32 billion and a circulating supply of about 3.56 billion tokens. The token has spent much of 2026 oscillating between $0.24 and $0.38.

The March OTC sale priced tokens at $0.27, well below the current trading price. Buyers in this latest round are also locked up for twice as long as the March cohort.

Eightco Holdings has raised funds specifically to make WLD a primary asset in its corporate treasury.

For the next 12 months, the $53 million worth of tokens from this round will sit on the sidelines. Combined with the six-month lockups from the March sale, some of which will begin expiring in September 2026, investors should be mapping out a calendar of potential unlock events.

The World Foundation’s Orb technology, which launched in beta in 2023, provides biometric verification. The WLD token functions as the network’s reward mechanism, payment layer, and governance tool.
