peaq, the layer-1 blockchain built for the machine economy, announced the integration of World ID into its peaqOS stack on August 21. The move gives machines and autonomous devices a way to verify that they’re interacting with an actual human, not a bot or spoofed identity, while keeping personal information completely off the table.
World ID functions as a proof-of-human credential. It uses advanced cryptographic protocols, most notably iris verification conducted through physical orb devices, to generate anonymous proofs of uniqueness. The system confirms two things: that a user is a genuine human, and that they haven’t already created another identity in the system. No names, no email addresses, no government IDs get passed along in the process.
By embedding this into peaqOS, peaq is adding a privacy-preserving identity layer to its broader machine application stack. peaqOS already handles machine identities, wallets, data access, and coordination across multiple blockchain networks. It’s designed as an omnichain infrastructure, meaning it works across different chains rather than locking developers into a single ecosystem.
The World ID integration slots into this architecture as the human-facing counterpart to the machine identity tools peaq already provides. Machines get verified identities through peaq’s existing DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) framework. Now the humans on the other side of those interactions get a verification path too.
Recent updates to peaqOS have also included peer-to-peer data handling and monetization tools.
In practical terms, a peaq-powered machine can now verify both ends of a transaction: its own identity through peaq’s machine ID system, and the human’s identity through World ID’s proof-of-human credential. The machine knows it’s dealing with a real person and can confirm which verified human placed a specific order, without learning who that person is in any identifiable sense.
