Mason Mount is not heading to Milan. At least, not through any conversation that actually happened.
AC Milan moved quickly to deny reports that the club had been in contact with Mount’s representatives over a potential summer transfer, shutting down speculation that emerged on June 28, 2026. The denial was unambiguous: no formal contact, no serious interest, no deal in the works.
Mount, for his part, is expected to stay at Manchester United.
How the rumor started
The speculation centered on a claim that Mount had been offered to AC Milan with the reported backing of United manager Ruben Amorim. Milan didn’t take the bait.
A speculative valuation of around €25 million was attached to the rumored deal, which would represent a significant markdown from the £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons United paid Chelsea to sign him in July 2023.
Mount’s injury-hit tenure at United
Mount’s time at Old Trafford has been defined as much by absence as by contribution. Since arriving from Chelsea, he has dealt with a series of injury setbacks that limited his ability to establish himself as the transformative signing United hoped they were getting.
He signed with United and won the Champions League with Chelsea back in 2021. Earlier in 2026, loan speculation connected Mount to several clubs closer to home. Coventry City, Fulham, and Aston Villa were all mentioned as potential temporary destinations. Mount turned down those options.
His contract runs until June 2028, which gives United leverage in any transfer negotiation but also means they carry his wages for another two years if no deal materializes.
