FC Porto has given Rodrigo Mora the green light to travel to Rome for medical examinations and a contract signing, bringing one of the summer’s most closely watched transfer sagas to its final act.
The 19-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with AS Roma, capping weeks of negotiations that saw the two clubs haggle over a fee reportedly in the range of €45-50 million.
Inside the deal structure
The initial payment is expected to be approximately €25 million, potentially covering a partial stake in Mora’s economic rights. A second tranche of roughly €25 million would follow, though the exact nature of that payment, whether it’s an obligation to buy or a more flexible option, has been a key sticking point.
Porto pushed for stricter buy-obligation terms. Roma preferred a structure with more breathing room. The compromise apparently came together during intensive overnight discussions leading into August 16, with both clubs preparing the necessary documentation within a tight 24-to-48-hour window once momentum picked up.
The negotiations had actually stalled earlier in the window. Roma’s interest in Mora wasn’t new, but it had reportedly cooled before resurfacing in mid-August with renewed urgency.
Who is Rodrigo Mora?
Born on May 5, 2007, Mora is a product of Porto’s youth development system. He broke into the senior squad in 2024, which means he was just 17 when he started getting meaningful minutes. By mid-2026, Mora had racked up 51 appearances and 11 goals for Porto’s first team.
What this means for both clubs
The five-year contract length locks Mora into the project through his mid-twenties. For Porto, a fee of up to €50 million for a player they raised through their own system represents the academy model working as designed. The partial-rights structure, if confirmed, would also give Porto continued financial exposure to Mora’s future value, potentially allowing them to benefit from a future sale at a higher fee.
With medical tests now on the schedule, barring an unexpected issue in the physical examination, Mora should be officially unveiled as a Roma player shortly.
