Aston Villa appears to be lining up a contingency plan between the posts. Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has emerged as a target for the club should Emiliano Martinez depart this summer, with Juventus reportedly renewing discussions with the Argentine’s representatives.
Martinez has been Villa’s undisputed first-choice keeper since arriving from Arsenal for £20 million back in September 2020. But the 33-year-old’s future at Villa Park is now genuinely uncertain.
The Juventus factor
Juventus reportedly re-initiated contact with Martinez’s representatives on June 8, 2026, signaling that their interest is more than casual window shopping.
Martinez’s contract situation has added fuel to the speculation. With his deal nearing expiration and his performances during the 2025-26 season described as inconsistent, the dynamics have shifted.
Who is Zion Suzuki?
Born on August 21, 2002, Suzuki is a 23-year-old Japan international who has steadily built his reputation in Serie A with Parma. He joined the Italian club permanently in July 2024 on a five-year deal after initially arriving on loan, and he’s since cemented himself as their starting goalkeeper. Before his European move, Suzuki came through the ranks at Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan’s J-League.
When Manchester United expressed interest in Suzuki back in January 2025, the valuation discussed was around €45 million. Arsenal were also reportedly in the mix at that point. Neither club ultimately pulled the trigger.
What this means for Villa’s summer plans
There’s also the competitive landscape to consider. Suzuki has already attracted attention from Manchester United and Arsenal. If those sides reignite their interest, Villa could find themselves in a bidding war. Whether Parma would accept less than the €45 million figure discussed during the Manchester United interest is another question entirely.
No formal statements have been issued by Aston Villa regarding their interest in Suzuki, and nothing official has been announced about Martinez’s future either.
