BTQ Technologies has closed its acquisition of QPerfect SA, a French quantum computing firm, effective July 8, 2026. The deal, valued at approximately €18.59 million in total consideration, brings BTQ one meaningful step closer to building a full-stack quantum security business.
The price breaks down as €2.02 million in cash and shares, plus a potential earnout of up to €5.67 million tied to future performance milestones. BTQ had already signaled its intent with a €2 million initial investment back in November 2025.
What BTQ is actually buying
QPerfect, founded in 2023 and based at the European Center for Quantum Sciences in Strasbourg, France, specializes in software and control systems for neutral-atom quantum architectures.
QPerfect brings two core products into the BTQ portfolio. The first is MIMIQ, a quantum software emulation platform capable of stable simulations at 100 or more qubits. The second is QLU, a digital twin modeling and control system.
For BTQ, whose existing business centers on post-quantum cryptography and quantum-secure networking, this is the missing hardware and emulation layer. The company is now building what it describes as a vertically integrated stack, covering everything from the physics layer up to the network security applications that enterprises and governments actually care about.
The Bitcoin angle
In January 2026, BTQ launched a Bitcoin Quantum testnet, positioning it as a quantum-safe alternative to the standard Bitcoin protocol.
The MIMIQ platform lets BTQ’s researchers stress-test post-quantum algorithms against simulated quantum attacks without waiting for production-grade quantum hardware to become widely accessible.
BTQ CEO Olivier Roussy Newton and QPerfect CEO Philippe Blot are both remaining in their leadership roles post-acquisition, with restricted stock units awarded as retention incentives.
On July 22, 2026, BTQ announced a research partnership with the University of Strasbourg to build what the company calls the first public neutral-atom quantum computing platform in France.
What investors should watch
BTQ trades on Nasdaq under the ticker BTQ.
The earnout structure in the QPerfect deal is worth noting. Up to €5.67 million of the total consideration is contingent on QPerfect hitting future milestones. That structure protects BTQ if the technology underdelivers, but it also means the founding team has strong financial incentive to perform.
