Coinbase is turning its next earnings call into something that looks a lot less like a Goldman Sachs conference line and a lot more like a Reddit thread. The company announced on July 15 that its Q2 2026 financial results will drop after market close on July 30, followed immediately by a live Ask Me Anything session on X at 2:00 p.m. PT.
CEO Brian Armstrong and CFO Alesia Haas will field questions in real time. The session will also be streamed on YouTube for anyone who prefers their corporate transparency with a different UI.
The format shift that keeps shifting
This isn’t Coinbase’s first rodeo with the AMA-style earnings format. The company ran a similar session after its Q2 2025 earnings release, and the approach has apparently stuck around because, well, it works.
Coinbase’s version flips the traditional script. By hosting the discussion on X, the company opens the floor to retail investors, crypto enthusiasts, and basically anyone with a social media account and an opinion.
The move reflects a broader pattern in how Coinbase handles investor communications. The company has been progressively leaning into social media as a primary disclosure channel, treating X not just as a marketing tool but as legitimate investor relations infrastructure.
Why this matters beyond the optics
For years, the SEC has allowed companies to use social media for material disclosures, provided they tell investors where to look. Coinbase is taking that permission and running with it, creating a format that prioritizes accessibility over exclusivity.
Direct access to Armstrong and Haas in an unscripted format also creates the potential for more candid responses. Prepared remarks are, by definition, prepared. Live questions from an unpredictable audience tend to surface topics that management might not voluntarily address.
Setting a precedent for crypto companies
Coinbase isn’t just any crypto company. It’s the largest US-based cryptocurrency exchange and one of very few pure-play crypto firms trading on a major stock exchange.
By positioning social media accounts, particularly those of its executives, as essential channels for disclosing material information, the company is setting a new standard in how public companies can communicate with their investors. This strategy acknowledges the importance of modern communication trends in fostering investor relations, particularly within the dynamic digital asset ecosystem.
