Deportivo La Coruña bids for Bayern Munich’s Jonathan Asp Jensen as fan token-era clubs reshape transfer strategy

Deportivo La Coruña has submitted an official bid to sign 20-year-old Danish attacking midfielder Jonathan Asp Jensen from FC Bayern Munich, entering a transfer race that already includes Serie A clubs Lazio and Udinese.

The deal on the table

Jensen, born January 14, 2006, joined Bayern Munich’s setup in the summer of 2022 but has struggled to break into the first team. His Bundesliga career amounts to exactly one appearance.

To get actual minutes on the pitch, he was loaned to Grasshopper Club Zürich for the 2025-26 season. The results were encouraging: 9 goals in 40 appearances.

Lazio made the first notable move, proposing a loan deal worth around €500K with an obligation to buy Jensen for somewhere between €5M and €6M. Bayern said no. The German giants want a permanent transfer, not a deferred payment structure.

That rejection opened the door for Deportivo. Reports of the Spanish club’s interest became prominent in early July 2026, and now the bid is official. Jensen’s contract with Bayern runs through June 2028, giving the selling club leverage in negotiations.

No agreement has been reached yet. But Deportivo’s willingness to pursue a permanent deal rather than a loan structure aligns with what Bayern is looking for, which could give the Spanish side an edge over Italian competitors.
