Galatasaray opens negotiations with Napoli to re-sign Noa Lang on permanent deal

Galatasaray has entered talks with Napoli over a permanent transfer for Noa Lang, the Dutch winger who spent the second half of last season on loan in Istanbul. The negotiations, first reported by Turkish journalist Ertan Süzgün in mid-August 2026, come after Galatasaray declined to trigger a purchase option of roughly €30 million when the loan expired.

That figure was apparently too rich for a player who, while talented, has struggled to find consistent footing since leaving the Eredivisie. Now both clubs are back at the negotiating table, and the price tag is expected to look considerably different.

How Lang ended up in limbo

Lang’s journey to this point reads like a cautionary tale about expensive transfers that don’t quite click. Napoli signed him from PSV Eindhoven in July 2025 for a fee reported between €25 million and €28 million, handing him a five-year contract running through June 2030.

Under Antonio Conte, however, the 27-year-old could never lock down a regular spot. He managed just 18 Serie A appearances and a single goal before being shipped off to Galatasaray on loan in January 2026, with the Turkish club paying a €2 million loan fee for the privilege.

At Galatasaray, Lang featured in 13 Süper Lig matches and got time in European competition. The club let the purchase option lapse, Lang returned to Napoli, and everyone found themselves in that awkward post-loan purgatory where nobody is thrilled with the situation.

Why Napoli is willing to deal

Napoli has placed Lang on the market. Having invested north of €25 million barely a year ago, the Italian club is now looking to recoup whatever it can for a player who clearly doesn’t fit Conte’s system.

Lang’s estimated market value sits around €22 million as of August 2026. That’s a meaningful drop from his original transfer fee and an even steeper decline from the €30 million option Galatasaray passed on. The player still has four years remaining on his contract, which gives Napoli some leverage.

What Galatasaray is calculating

From the Turkish side, the logic for pursuing Lang a second time is clear enough. He’s a proven talent in his prime years who already knows the locker room, the league, and the city.

Galatasaray’s decision to let the €30 million option expire was a loud statement about what they believe Lang is actually worth. Any new deal will almost certainly come in well below that threshold, potentially closer to €15-20 million, though no figures have been confirmed at this early stage of talks.

Lang fits Galatasaray’s profile of targeting established European talent: he is a Netherlands international with experience in the Belgian Pro League, Eredivisie, and Serie A who simply needs a place where the manager wants him.

As of mid-August 2026, the negotiations remain in their early stages with no confirmed timeline or fee structure.
