Rangers want Václav Černý back. The Czech winger lit up Ibrox during a loan spell in 2024/25, and now the Scottish club is trying to make the reunion permanent. There’s just one problem: Beşiktaş isn’t in a generous mood.
Rangers submitted an opening bid estimated at around £5 to £5.1 million for the 28-year-old, and Beşiktaş rejected it. The Turkish club paid between €5 and €6 million to sign Černý on a permanent deal in September 2025, and they’re not about to let him walk for what amounts to a lateral move on the balance sheet.
The loan that started it all
Černý arrived at Rangers on loan in July 2024, and the impact was immediate. He scored 12 league goals across 33 appearances. The Czech international featured at Euro 2024 representing his country on the biggest stage in European football.
The money problem
Beşiktaş views Černý as an integral part of their squad, and his current market valuation sits at around €7 million. That’s a meaningful gap between what Rangers offered and what Beşiktaş believes the player is worth.
Černý’s wages are reported to be around £45,000 per week, a figure that would make him one of the highest earners at Ibrox. That’s roughly £2.3 million per year in wages alone. Add a transfer fee north of £5 million and you’re looking at a total investment that would rank among Rangers’ most expensive signings in recent memory.
Černý’s contract with Beşiktaş runs until June 2028, which gives the Turkish club significant leverage. They don’t need to sell. There’s no expiring deal creating urgency.
The gap between a £5 million opening offer and a €7 million valuation (roughly £5.9 million at current exchange rates) isn’t enormous. Rangers likely need to move into the £5.5 to £6 million range to get Beşiktaş to the table in earnest.
